Diagram of a base connector assembled with other pump parts while pumping

As part of the two-piece flange system, the base connector allows parents to switch to a different shield size without disturbing the rest of the pumping setup. There is no need to remove or touch the tubing, backflow protector, or bottle—making size adjustments cleaner, quicker, and more convenient during pumping. Maymom offers several types of base connectors designed to match various pump systems and user needs.

A base connector is a key component in a two-piece flange system. It must attach to a detachable breastshield to function properly. In a breast pump setup, the base connector links the breastshield, tubing, and milk container together.

Breastshield side – Connects to a detachable breastshield. When combined, the base connector + shield form a complete flange.

Pump (tubing) side – Connects to the backflow protector (in closed-system pumps) and then to the tubing. Through this connection, suction generated by the pump motor is delivered to the flange.

Container side – Typically where the valve is installed. Suction opens and closes the valve, allowing milk to flow into the container (collection bottle or storage bag). Container or flange openings are generally categorized into narrow-neck and wide-neck types.
